To say the least I am very happy with with stumpwm. It gives me complete control over my desktop. Actually 2 week...Thanks totedati for your comments. Actually 2 weeks ago, I tried Gentoo again but was frustrated again. Compiling time is one thing, another problem is that some packages are even older compared with Arch Linux. For example, I use SBCL a lot, the version in Gentoo portage (even with ~arch keyword) is 1.0.36, while in Arch it is 1.0.44. Also openjdk is still not in portage. I know I can setup overlay, or even write ebuilds by myself. But isn't a cutting edge system supposed to provide most up to date packages? I guess the main issue now is that Gentoo just provides too much flexibility for customization, which makes development and maintainable really a headache: there are just too many (if not infinite) combinations to handle/test.

I have heard Sabayon Linux and know that it is more popular than Gentoo from distrowatch. Maybe I will try Sabayon sometime, but currently I'm quite satisfied with Arch.

Anyway, use the system which is most suitable for you. This is Linux world :-)Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11205967188770463624noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6613449007994858413.post-52191012183313225232010-12-27T03:36:46.772+08:002010-12-27T03:36:46.772+08:00"It is really cool to build a cutting-edge sy..."It is really cool to build a cutting-edge system, however the time spent on building it and maintaining it is enormous"

hummmm ... if you really like the power and flexibility of portage package manager but don't want to spent so much time to "always on" and "forewer compiling" you should use sabayon and entropy infrastructure ... is no need to trow away years of you beloved gentoo setup! use sabayon linux!

you can use source based portage in parallel with entropy binary generated packages ... this way you have the best of both world ... arch ports is nowhere so easy and flexible like portage when you need to compile from source code ...

and sabayon entropy upgrades is ... just working ... an always up to date system in a weekly scheduled upgrades who do not need more that an hour per one week to be up to date ...

;-)totedatihttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03943613954497341296noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6613449007994858413.post-2923674891097210262010-02-22T12:23:09.607+08:002010-02-22T12:23:09.607+08:00Thank you justin! Putting this big hunk of glass at the front makes it an entirely different camcorder - twice as heavy and very unbalanced with all that weight hanging off the front. It is pretty big also, adding 3-4 inches at the front, but the weight and balance were the killers for me.

I wanted to like it, as this camcorder really could use a wider field (I am tired of backing up so much). It also looks very high quality (and if glass weight = quality, it must be great) but I never even tested it out because to me the camcorder becomes a different (and unusable) device with this on it. If you don't mind the weight (perhaps you only use it on a tripod, where the size and weight don't matter), give it a try, but I wanted to warn you first - heavy and unbalanced make for bad handheld shooting.

cdr vierge Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6613449007994858413.post-57304162791518302592009-02-08T07:16:00.000+08:002009-02-08T07:16:00.000+08:00That is very significant!
